Turkish ceramics are among the very finest available anywhere in the Mediterranean, and this piece is a remarkable example of a traditional Ottoman design from the 16th century. It is truly stunning in its level of detail and artistry. During its height, the Ottoman Empire and its Sultan ruled from Constantinople (present day Istanbul) with an empire that stretched from the present day Middle East well into Europe and North Africa. This piece was made in central Turkey in Kutahya, a city renowned for its excellent tradition of Turkish ceramic production. It is signed by the artist and the workshop. Truly a work of art that you will be unlikely to find outside of Turkey.
